If you’re considering a move to Charlotte, NC, your greatest challenge may simply be choosing among the many great neighborhoods in which to live! The Queen City offers no shortage of desirable locales to plant roots – whether you seek the very best in outdoor leisure activities, shopping, brewery-hopping or to focus on your fitness, there’s a neighborhood in Charlotte that will feel custom-designed to suit your interests. Join us as we explore three of the city’s very best neighborhoods and highlight some of the places in each that make them great.
Renowned for both its stunning 1920’s architecture and its plethora of high-end shopping, dining and leisure activities, Myers Park is easily ranked amongst the very best neighborhoods in Charlotte. For the avid golfer, Myers Park Country Club is a sought-after destination, renowned for its award-winning golf course. For those keen on shopping and dining, the area is also home to Selwyn Corners, an upscale shopping destination that offers an array of well-curated boutique shops and restaurants. Favorite stops at Selwyn Corners include clothing boutique Monkee’s, featuring an assortment of contemporary clothing, designer shoes and bags, and brand-new culinary gem, The Jimmy, serving up Mediterranean fare inspired by flavors found along the coasts of Italy and France. Opened by esteemed Charlotte chef, Jim Noble (the owner of numerous top-notch restaurants throughout the city), The Jimmy has already established itself as a Myers Park must-do.

A newer addition to the Queen City’s list of places to find entertainment, Charlotte’s Lower South End neighborhood (or LoSo) is a craft beer connoisseur’s dream. Home to an almost overwhelming number of taprooms, LoSo is the hot spot for those who appreciate a good locally brewed beer – although there are also a generous number of restaurants, shops and fitness facilities in the neighborhood, as well. Easily accessible via Charlotte’s Lynx Light Rail transportation system, residents of LoSo can spend an afternoon embarking on their very own brewery tour – some of our favorite stops include Olde Mecklenburg Brewery (Charlotte’s oldest and largest craft brewery and beer garden, known for offering its house brews in a lively setting), GoodRoad Ciderworks (a “rustic-chic” locale offering a rotating selection of artisanal house-brewed ciders & meads) and Sugar Creek Brewing Company (offering live music and tasty food alongside their selection of local craft beer and cocktails). And if you find you’ve been over-indulging in the best of Charlotte’s craft beer, head over to Hive Fitness, LoSo’s boutique fitness club offering barre, yoga, personal training and more – just be sure you’ve allowed ample time for the spirits to leave your system before mounting that NEXTcycle bike.

A short 20-minute drive north of the city of Charlotte, Davidson is a small town with big amenities, offering residents a close-knit community with proximity to a bustling metropolis. Founded in 1837 at the same time as Davidson College, the town of Davidson will naturally appeal to scholars and historians – but don’t count out foodies, art-lovers and anyone that enjoys the small-town charms of a historic college town. Davidson’s quintessential downtown area offers an array of restaurants that will become instant favorites, including Davidson Wine Co (an urban winery and bistro with globally sourced, locally crafted wines paired with delectable bites), Kindred Restaurant (a foodie favorite with seasonal-inspired small dishes featuring contemporary cuisine of the new South) and Flatiron Kitchen + Taphouse (offering fresh, local and house-made dishes that deliver a big-city culinary experience in a small-town neighborhood). The Davidson Farmer’s Market is a must-do every Saturday from 9-noon for locals to pick up their fresh fruits, veggies, meat, dairy and baked goods, in addition to specialty beverages, culinary items – and even health and beauty products! And lastly, Davidson’s adjacency to picturesque Lake Norman means there are endless opportunities for fun on the water, whether enjoyed during a quick day trip or a full-blown weekend getaway.
